Indonesian researcher finds herbal anti-bird flu formula

An Indonesian researcher said that he has found the ingredients for an anti-bird flu formula, which has been proven effective at the Veterinary Centre of the Agriculture Ministry in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

The researcher-a lecturer named Ir Sumardi Msc from the Food Technology Faculty of Soegijapranata University in Semarang-said that the anti-bird flu formula ingredients were obtained from herbal extracts found in East Java.

In the first stage of the clinical test, at least 6 out of the 12 chickens survived after being given the herbal extracts, despite encountering about 4 million bird flu viruses.

However, Sumardi added that the herbal extracts are only effective when administered to healthy chickens.

Sumardi is scheduled to meet with Indonesia's Agriculture Minister after reporting this invention to Central Java¡'s governor. He will also be applying for a patent for his invention.
