China's cotton production to suffer 4.2% decline from 2011
China's cotton production is expected to reach 6.97 million tonnes in 2012, a decline of 4.2% from 2011.
The estimate is slightly lower than 6.99 million tonnes which the China Cotton Association (CCA) predicted a month earlier as strong rainfall and high temperature in some regions affected yield of the cotton crop.
However, the domestic cotton is growing well on the whole and is projected to see bumper harvest given absence of big natural disasters in the following months, according to a CCA report.
The CCA estimated China's cotton planting area at 4.88 million hectares in 2012, down 8.8% from last year.
