Cargill announces grain facility expansion in Manitoba

Plans of expanding its Elva grain facility located in south western Manitoba has been announced Friday (Aug 24) by Cargill, which primarily handles wheat, rapeseed, barley and oats.

The expansion will include increasing Elva's storage capacity from 14,500 tonnes to 24,500 as well as increasing rail car handling capacity from 56 cars to 112.

"We have heard from our customers and to continue to meet their needs we knew we needed to expand in the southwest part of the province," said Sheldon Spearman, Cargill farm service group manager. "This decision comes from Cargill's commitment to helping growers prosper by improving access to services for farmers in south western Manitoba and south eastern Saskatchewan," he added.

Construction is set to begin by the end of August 2012, with completion anticipated for harvest 2013. Throughout the construction customers will be able to continue to deliver grain and access the Cargill facility in a safe and efficient manner.
