China, Mongolia and Russia discuss transboundary control of animal diseases

On 20-22 August, the government veterinary departments of China, Mongolia, and Russia held a seminar in Ergun City in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, discussing the transboundary control of animal diseases.

The tripartite party analysed the epidemic situation of diseases such as foot and mouth disease, avian flu, brucellosis and African swine fever, and exchanged views on preventive and control measures. The three parties agreed that, to effectively establish a "One World, One Health" concept, national, departmental and disciplinary boundaries have to be broken, and they called for the integrated use of resources to strengthen cooperation amongst veterinarians from all three countries. They also called for the strengthening of diagnostic techniques and collaborative research in prevention and control. Additionally, they urged cooperation amongst research institutes and drug companies.

Apart from veterinary sector representatives from the three countries, the seminar also welcomed representatives from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, the Asian Development Bank and the World Organisation of Animal Health. The former two provided funding for the seminar.
