UK seafood firm announces another US$1.6 million investment
UK seafood firm which has just completed GBP1million (US$1.6 million) worth of upgrades at its north-east factory has announced another GBP1million (US$1.6 million) investment programme.
Macrae Fraserburgh, part of The Seafood Company has just completed refurbishments to its smoked fish facilities with a new kiln and the addition of new loading bays.
The company has now revealed another GBP1million to be invested at the Watermill Road site for new packing equipment, scales, roofing, new flooring and improved staff facilities.
The GBP2million upgrade will provide better facilities for the 800 staff working at the seafood factory and enable even greater outturn of produce.
Macrae Fraserburgh managing director Iain Herd the investment is part of an ongoing programme to shape the business for future growth and improve processing capacity.
Fraserburgh said the factory plays an important role in the Scottish and local economy, buying around GBP43million worth of fish every year from Scotland and at peak times, such as now in the run-up to Christmas.
The company sells retailer brands to the UK's key supermarket chains, producing around 3.4 million packs of fish monthly and has the capacity to process 2.6 million salmon a year.
