Brazil reports 37-percent increase in cattle export value to Lebanon
Brazil's state of Para exported live cattle to Lebanon in July worth US$2.78 million, growing by 37 percent on-year, according to the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade's Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex).
However, Para's export of live cattle was 302 animals less than July 2007 shipment of 4,235 animals.
The price of cattle exported rose significantly in one year. In the month of July last year, the state of Paraná sold each animal to the Lebanese for US$478.
This year, each animal was traded for US$707, hitting a 48-percent growth in prices. The state of Pará was the only one in Brazil that exported live cattle to the Arabs in July this year and last year.
Lebanon purchased US$20.2 million in Brazilian products in the month, against US$ 13.1 million in the same period in 2007. Live cattle came in the second place in the import basket from Brazil.
