Mexico's research centre works on technology to monitor shrimp production

The Centre for Food Research and Development (CIAD) and the company Digital and Dynamic Communications (Didcom) will collaborate in the design of an electronic system using sensors to monitor shrimp growth.

The idea is to monitor the critical variables to ensure the smooth development of the crustacean and thus ensuring quality.

Both organisations signed a collaboration agreement for the "Design and development of a monitoring system and monitoring of biological stability in cultivation tanks and in the cold chain for the aquaculture industry."

For the development of the project, the CIAD was allocated a MXN10 million (US$780,500) fund that was approved through the Proinnova Assembly of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt).

Meanwhile, the general director of Didcom, Yochanan Cornejo Chait, said they were working on the technology and electronic part of the design for the monitoring of all processes in the crustacean.

This project is intended to support the Mexican aquaculture sector to export the crustacean to countries where quality standards are very strict.
