Idaho cattle on feed up eight percent on-year
Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in Idaho from feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more head on August 1, 2009, totalled 195,000 head, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The cattle on feed inventory was two-percent below the number on feed July 1, 2009, but up eight percent from August 1, 2008. Placements of cattle in feedlots in Idaho with a capacity of 1,000 or more head during July totalled 33,000 head, up 4,000 head from July 2008 placements.
Marketings of cattle from feedlots with 1,000 head or more during July totalled 37,000 head, down 11,000 head from the same month a year ago. Other disappearance totalled 1,000 during July 2009.
Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the US for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totalled 9.6 million head on August 1, 2009. The inventory was two-percent below August 1, 2008.
Placements in feedlots during July totalled 1.86 million, 13-percent above 2008. Net placements were 1.82 million head. During July, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 455,000, 600-699 pounds were 365,000, 700-799 pounds were 458,000 and 800 pounds and greater were 585,000.
Marketings of fed cattle during July totalled 1.93 million, five-percent below 2008, and the third lowest marketings for the month of July since the series began in 1996.
Other disappearance totalled 43,000 during July, four-percent below 2008, the lowest other disappearance for the month of July since the series began in 1996.
