First shipments of China's chilled pork to Hong Kong clears inspection
The first shipments of pork imported from China, totaling 7,250 kilogrammes, have passed inspections on Wednesday (Aug 23) and has been released into the consumer market, Hong Kong authorities said.
Samples were tested for veterinary drug residues and results of laboratory tests confirmed that all samples were safe, a spokesman for the Hong Kong Center of Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said.
The State General Administration of the Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said strict measures are in place to ensure the safety of imported pork.
The main suppliers of pork to Hong Kong also include Thailand, Australia and the US.
