Norwegian firms to help India develop cage aquaculture

India is hiring Norwegian help to develop cage aquaculture, a press release from India's Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) said on Wednesday (Aug 22).

India's Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Innovation Norway (IN), a Norwegian Government-owned company, to develop projects that would help it produce and market fish from such aquaculture projects.

The company would first conduct a detailed survey of the potential sites in India along the inshore regions and then establish pilot projects for commercial demonstration to prove its technical and economic feasibilities.

Other aspects of the programme would include developing suitable health management practices for cultured species and marketing the cultured products in the international market, especially in the EU, the MPEDA said in a news release.
