Vietnam province bans Cambodian cattle

Logn An province in southern Vietnam has banned the import of cows, buffaloes and their manure from neighbouring Cambodia to stem the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, state media reported Wednesday (Aug 23).

Transportation of cattle from the border district of Duc Hue, 120 kilometers (75 miles) west of Ho Chi Minh City, was also banned after cases of traders selling fertiliser made from Cambodian cow dung were reported.

Many cattle imported from Cambodia into the Mekong delta-based province have been found to be infected with foot-and-mouth disease, according to local reports.

Vietnam's Animal Health Department lists Long An as one of the 13 provinces still suffering from the highly contagious disease.
