Russia harvests grains, leguminous crops throughout 24.1 million hectares

 

 

Russia has already harvested grains and leguminous crops in the country throughout the areas of 24.1 million hectares (54% of the plan) as of August 20.

 

The produced volumes totalled 47.7 million tonnes of grains (in 2011 - 54.4 million tonnes) with the average yield of 19.8 centners/ha (c/ha) (in 2011 - 27.3 c/ha), declared Petr Chekmarev, Director of the Department of crop production, chemisation and plant protection of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, on August 21.

 

The official also highlighted that during the harvesting campaign in the Volga Federal District, which is most affected by the abnormally hot weather, agrarians already harvested grains and leguminous crops throughout 8.5 million hectares (65.7% of the plan). The produced grain volumes totalled 11.6 million tonnes (in 2011 -11.9 million tonnes), the average yield - 13.7 c/ha (in 2011 - 20.9 c/ha).
