Antigua a good showcase for aquaculture

The Caribbean islands of Antigua and Barbuda may be used not only for the display of super yachts but also as a model to showcase fish farms and the aquaculture business.

Dr. Evelyn Weekes, an aquaculture business owner, said one of the aims of the United Nations grant for individuals involved in fish farming is for them to spread the initiative throughout the country.

Weekes is currently setting up a demonstration farm for the Antigua and Barbuda Fishermen Co-operative Society Ltd., in Freetown as part of a project funded by the United Nations (UN)

She described her venture as an opportunity for everyone, adding that the effort would level the playing field by involving people in investing in their own business.

She further said that while foreign investments do bring in expertise, sometimes their businesses may not benefit the locals.
