UK urges EU's meat organizations to work to solve price crisis
European meat organizations are banding together to discuss ways to combat falling pork margins in Europe.
New Producers Alliance (NPA) and British Pig Executive (BPEX) chairman Stewart Houston spoke to Bent Claudy Larsen, his counterpart at the Danish Bacon and Meat CounciL this week and plans are in the works to involve Germany, Holland and perhaps Spain for collaborative action to deal with the crisis.
Food and farming minister Jeff Rooker has praised the industry for the self-help measures it has planned and pledged his support.
The board of BPEX have also arranged an emergency meeting this week to discuss measures, including a possible suspension of the levy.
