Vietnam's seafood industry turns to domestic market amid declining exports

Vietnam's seafood industry is turning more to the country's domestic market amid declining exports, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

VASEP said the industry had recently launched new business strategies to woo a large domestic market of 80 million people.

Products were diversified through offering different flavours, sizes and processing methods, to suit domestic customers' tastes and limited budgets.

Industry reports said processors in Can Tho, Kien Giang and Dong Thap in the Mekong River Delta, started supplying to urban supermarkets to meet growing seafood demand in the wake of Vietnam's bird flu outbreaks.
