US red meat production fall in July this year

US commercial red meat production totalled 3.62 billion pounds in July this year, down two percent from 3.71 billion pounds year-on-year, the US Department of Agriculture said.

July's beef production fell one percent year-on-year to register 2.08 billion pounds, while cattle slaughter totalled 2.72 million head, down two percent year-on-year.

Veal production in July fell seven percent year-on-year to total 12.4 million pounds, while calf slaughter fell 15 percent year-on-year to register 58,600 head.

Meanwhile, July's pork output fell five percent year-on-year to total 1.51 billion pounds, and hog slaughter fell five percent year-on-year to total 7.66 million head.
