China expects rise in this year's summer grain output

China's government said it expected domestic grain production to reach 101.25 million tonnes in 2005, a 5.1 percent rise year-on-year.

Summer wheat production was forecast to grow about 5 percent year-on-year.

During this year's first half, China imported 2.754 million tonnes of wheat, a rise of 1.42 percent year-on-year, while exports fell 83.27 percent year-on-year to 93,000 tonnes.

As wheat production was expected to rise while its exports fell, domestic wheat supplies were expected to rise moderately.

Meanwhile, industry reports said China's wheat storage has reached 20 million tonnes in recent days.

So far, the country has purchased 20.243 million tonnes of new wheat.
