Bangladesh might increase fish production
Bangladesh's government said it was considering an action plan to increase domestic fish production in the short and long term, following recommendations by fisheries experts, reports said.
Production of quality fish fries, increasing shrimp production through the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system, and announcing some fish breeding points as fish sanctuaries were some considerations for the plan.
The government also emphasised the need to set up backward and forward linkage industries for increasing domestic fish production.
Bangladesh's fisheries sector contributed 5.72 percent of total export earnings and 4.92 percent of the country's GDP, according to reports.
