US and Canada's cattle inventory sees two-percent fall
                           


All cattle and calves in the US and Canada totalled 116.6 million head on July 1, 2009, down two percent from a year ago, USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) and Statistics Canada reported.

 

All cows and heifers that have calved, at 47.0 million head, were two-percent lower than a year ago.

 

All cattle and calves in the US on July 1 totalled 101.8 million head, down one percent from July 1, 2008. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 41.4 million head, were one-percent lower than a year ago.

 

All cattle and calves in Canada as of July 1, 2009, totalled 14.8 million head, down two percent from July 1, 2008. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 5.57 million, were five-percent lower than a year ago.
