Australian aquaculture company forms joint venture in South Korea
Australia's Barramundi Blue Aquaculture (BBA Australia) is helping South Korea to develop the industry through a joint venture.
The joint venture partnership, K&A Aquaculture Ltd Korea with Korean partner Clean Nature Ltd, would grow Korean saltwater Rock Bream for live sale and export to Japan.
Operations began last week at a new 120-tonne purpose built Recirculative Aquaculture facility on Jeju Island, South Korea.
The facility was designed by Barramundi Blue Aquaculture and built under Joint Project and Construction Management between the two companies. The facility, with an area of 2000 square metres, consists of a 30,000 and a 5000 litre tank with biological filters in a climatically controlled building
The facility will initially stock Rock Bream, but may soon look to grow grouper.
Climate control is necessary as temperatures can go as low as - 10 deg C.
Geoff Orpin, BBA's Designer and Project Manager said the marrying of Australian and Korean technology has been a huge challenge that has resulted in a world class facility that is both economically viable and economically friendly.
The facility also includes a second level for Aquaponics to grow seaweed for the food chain in the future growing of abalone.
K&A holds the Korean rights to the company's Barrablue technology and would now begin marketing the Barrablue systems. BBA Australia has also helped developed farms in Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.
Barramundi Blue Aquaculture (BBA)Australia is now regarded one of the world's leading developers and operators of Barrablue Technology Recirculative Aquaculture System (RAS) and is looking to expand further in to South Asia.
Barrablue Technology can be adapted to both saltwater and fresh water species as well as mariculture, more importantly it produces a clean, 'green product. It has the ability to 'cleanse' impure waters as to make suitable for aquaculture as well as to be physically developed and can be easily constructed in country using local materials and semi and unskilled labour.
The technology can also be retro fitted to existing pond and farm operations.
Barrablue Technology has been endorsed by both Australian State and Federal Government Agencies through awards and recognitions as well as International Governments.
