Egypt GASC tenders to buy 55,000-60,000 tonnes wheat

Egypt's state-owned General Authority for Supply Commodities is tendering to buy at least 55,000 to 60,000 tonnes of wheat for shipment Oct 1-15 on a free-on-board basis, an official said Monday (Aug 20).

GASC is looking to purchase 55,000 to 60,000 tonnes of US hard red winter wheat, US soft red wheat, US soft white wheat, French milling wheat, Argentine wheat, Kazakhstan wheat, or Canadian soft wheat, Nomani Nomani, undersecretary of the vice chairman of GASC, told Dow Jones Newswires.

GASC is also looking for 30,000 to 60,000 tonnes of Russian, German, UK or Syrian wheat, he added.

Bidders should present prices for their cargos on a free-on-board basis and then present a separate freight offer that GASC might consider if prices are good, Nomani said.

If free-on-board prices are accepted but freight is seen as too expensive, GASC will look for another freight offer for the same cargo, he said.

GASC also announced a tender for a minimum of 25,000 tonnes of wheat, of all the same origins stated above, from local suppliers to be paid for in Egyptian pounds on a free-on-trucks basis.

The date of delivery for that tender is Nov 1-10, Nomani said.

The deadline for bids is 1100 GMT Tuesday.
