CP Feed Additives Plant in China's Guizhou Province Diversify to Meet 2004's Export Revenue

An eFeedLink Exclusive Report

Production at Guizhou Chia Tai Co. has been bustling with activity lately. According to a company official, business has emerged from the gloom of the bird flu outbreak earlier this year with a significant increase in export orders.

A RMB160 million joint-venture between Thailand's CP Group and the Economic Development Head Office of Longli County, Guizhou Chia Tai Co. is the only plant under the CP Group to produce feed additives in China.

The plant produces 120,000 tons of powder and granular feed-grade calcium hydrogen phosphate, and 10,000 tons of feed-grade calcium di-hydrogen phosphate annually, making it one of the top producers of both feed additives in Asia.

In 2003, Guizhou Chia Tai exported 20,000 tons of the feed additives to Malaysia, Vietnam, India, Myanmar, Indonesia and Thailand, with a value of US$3.5 million.

The outbreak of bird flu in several Asian countries earlier this year had severely affected the exports of Guizhou Chia Tai. With support from CP Bangkok headquarters, Guizhou Chia Tai promptly set out to diversify into producing aquaculture products for its export markets.

Sales volume of its aquatic products to Malaysia, Vietnam, India, Myanmar, Indonesia and Thailand has risen sharply. The exports in the first half-year of 2004 reached 10,000 tons, generating over US$1.7 million revenue.

Guizhou Chia Tai Co targets to achieve export sales of US$5 million in 2004.
