Indonesia's processed poultry demand expected to increase 20-25% annually
Demand for processed poultry in Indonesia may rise to a range of 20-25% annually, with local consumption expected to reach 2.5 million tonnes by 2018, according to Rabobank.
In its latest report, 'Time to Hatch a Plan for Indonesia Poultry', Rabobank estimates that a two-fold increase in poultry consumption among Indonesian consumers will transform the sector from a backyard farming industry into a professionally managed, integrated production.
Driven by the growth in modern retail, which requires high standards in food safety and hygiene, downstream processing is currently rising and accounts for 15% of poultry meat consumption.
The processed and value-added poultry meat market is estimated at between 160,000 - 170,000 tonnes.
