Australia develops new wheat variety

Australian scientists have developed a new variety of wheat that will not germinate or sprout if it rains before harvest time.

Pre-harvest sprouting reduces the quality of wheat, resulting in farmers losing more than A$20 million dollars annually, with some years hitting A$200 million.

Wheat growers are expected to gain access to this new type in three years.
