Canada completing national swine traceability system business plan
Canada's business plan for a national swine traceability system was nearing completion, according to the Canadian Pork Council. (CPC)
The plan would be presented for consultation with swine producers starting September.
CPC said the plan's three main pillars were the ability to identify animals, the ability to identify locations where animals were housed or assembled, and the ability to track animal movement.
Besides hog identification and registration, CPC also sought to capture slaughter data information and have a standard national tattoo number for market hogs going to slaughter.
In addition, CDC would require details pertaining to which animals needed identification and which circumstances were acceptable for group identification, as well as recording their movement data.
