UK June wheat exports down to 55,093 tonnes

UK's June wheat exports dropped to 55,093 tonnes, the lowest monthly total of the 2011-12 season.

The Netherlands was the largest customer, taking 27,146 tonnes.

Shipments for the 2011-12 season, which started on July 1, 2011, totalled 2.39 million tonnes, down from 2.65 million in the prior marketing year.

For the season, the Netherlands took 899,340 tonnes, up from the prior season's 669,266 tonnes but there was a drop to most other EU customers including Spain where shipments fell to 470,300 tonnes from 583,574 tonnes.

There was a rise in shipments to non-EU customers for the 2011-12 season to 355,646 tonnes from 300,351 tonnes, driven mainly by the export of 242,698 tonnes of the US. There were no significant shipments to the US in 2010-11.

UK rapeseed exports were 34,204 tonnes in June, bringing the total for the 2011-12 season to 1.03 million tonnes, more than double the prior season's 433,111 tonnes.

Rapeseed exports had been expected to rise sharply this season following a record harvest in 2011.
