Canola production in Belarus seen at one million tonnes

Canola production in Belarus is forecast to reach 1 million tonnes in 2010, according to Alexander Lukashenko, president of the Republic of Belarus.

Lukashenko said Belarus should invest money in purchasing new technologies and urged the government buy seven plants for canola processing.

According to the country's Ministry of Agriculture, as of Aug. 12, canola producers have harvested 738,000 tonnes of winter canola compared to 593,000 tonnes during the same period in 2008.
