Australian beef export values down 7 percent in 2005-06
Australian beef exports in 2005-06 are down 7 percent on 2004-05 levels, according to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Total exports were valued at US$4.54 billion.
Much of the decline was due to the drop in volumes exported.
Value of exports to the US in 2005-06 fell 20 percent, to US$1.16 billion, as volumes fell due to limited cow supplies.
Total value of beef exports to Japan in 2005-06, fell 11 percent to US$2.19 billion compared to 2004-05 as exports cooled from record volumes shipped in the previous year.
However, export value to South Korea in 2005-06 increased 26 percent to US$662 million, thanks to increased volumes.
