Australian beef export values down 7 percent in 2005-06

 

 

Australian beef exports in 2005-06 are down 7 percent on 2004-05 levels, according to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

 

Total exports were valued at US$4.54 billion.

 

Much of the decline was due to the drop in volumes exported.

 

Value of exports to the US in 2005-06 fell 20 percent, to US$1.16 billion, as volumes fell due to limited cow supplies. 

 

Total value of beef exports to Japan in 2005-06, fell 11 percent to US$2.19 billion compared to 2004-05 as exports cooled from record volumes shipped in the previous year.

 

However, export value to South Korea in 2005-06 increased 26 percent to US$662 million, thanks to increased volumes.
