Northeast China expects decent grain harvest
Crop growth has been satisfactory in Northeast China and the region is on track for a good harvest despite weather fluctuations, government officials said.
Autumn grain output is under pressure this year due to the weather fluctuations in some areas, but the crop growth has been good in Heilongjiang, said Li Zhanshu, governor of Heilongjiang province.
This year's grain output will surpass last year's levels, if there are no serious disasters before the harvest season, according to reports.
Heilongjiang produced 43.5 million tonnes of grain in 2009 and was ranked second in the nation after central China's Henan province in terms of output. Analysts said the good crop forecast and self-sufficient supply will help China combat price fluctuations in global markets.
