Canada's XL Beef shuts down operations
The struggling XL Beef processing plant in Moose Jaw City is closing its doors permanently.
The meat processor has been battling in recent years. There have been several rounds of lay-offs, a lengthy labour dispute, and on-going problems in the cattle industry. This decision will cause approximately 200 people to lose their jobs.
It also leaves Saskatchewan without a major meat processing facility. However, Donald's Fine Foods recently unveiled plans to open a pork processing plant in Moose Jaw sometime next year.
