Prison in Guyana to rear chickens
 

Working in conjunction with the Guyana Prison Service (GPS), Food for the Poor Inc. in Guyana a charitable organization, has initiated a poultry project at the New Amsterdam, Berbice penitentiary.

Food for the Poor provided funding for the construction of a chicken pen and procurement of 3,000 broilers, feed and medicine. The venture will be managed by prison officers and prisoners.

The enterprise aimed to maintain the dietary needs of inmates and provide them with useful skills such as business management and incentives to prepare them for re-entry into society, the organization said.
