Ukraine's pig and poultry numbers up; cattle down on August 1

The number of pigs in Ukraine on August 1 was 8.38 million, 6.7 percent more than on the same date last year, the state statistics committee reported Wednesday (August 15).

The numbers of poultry on August 1 was 207.68 million, an increase of 3.4 percent compared with August 1, 2006.

The number of cattle in the country on August 1 was 6.67 million, a fall of 7.75 percent compared with August 1, 2006.

In the last few years a number of serious investors entered the pork and poultry markets and considerable financial resources have been invested in upgrading the existing facilities and creating new ones.
