Most Americans willing to pay more for domestic meat
Seven out of ten Americans say they would willingly pay more for meat and seafood produced in the US, according to Zogby International.
One in three respondents said they would pay up to 10 percent more for US meat, and nearly half would be willing to pay from 10 to 25 percent more. Eleven percent said they would be willing to pay 25 percent or more.
Only about 15 percent of respondents said they would not be willing to pay more.
Nine in ten believe knowing the country of origin of the foods they buy will allow consumers to make safer food choices, and almost as much favour country-of-origin labelling.
However, despite their desire to have country-of-origin labeling, only one in ten would always check product origin and less than half said they would check "most of the time".
The survey was conducted among 4,508 adults nationwide.
