Iraq imports 1.2 million tonnes of American and Australian wheat
Iraq has imported a total of 1.2 million tonnes of American and Australian wheat. Cargill and Archer Daniels Midland would supply 600,000 tonnes of wheat at US$216/tonne for delivery into Iraq's Umm Qasr port and the Syrian port of Tartous, traders said.
The Australian Wheat Board would supply 600,000 tonnes at US$226/tonne.
However, cargo delivery would pose a logistical challenge, according to traders.
Umm Qasr, Iraq's main port, was affected by the resumption of a recent trucking dispute that disrupted the unloading of food vessels.
