Japan removes ban on Australian poultry meat
Japan has lifted a ban imposed in 2005 on Australian poultry meat over bird flu fears.
Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) said that it was satisfied that there was no longer a risk from Australian poultry meat having received information from Australia's health authorities on the country's quarantine measures for avian influenza.
The ban on Australian poultry meat, which was imposed in November 2005 after an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H7N7 which was confirmed in New South Wales, is lifted with immediate effect.
