Vietnam's tuna export earnings up 42.3% as of July 15

 

 

In the year to July 15, Vietnam earned US$311.6 million from tuna exports, rising 42.3% against the same period last year.

 

The US remained the biggest importer of Vietnamese tuna during the period, with an import value of US$143.9 million, accounting for 46.2% of the total figure, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) cited data from the General Department of Vietnam Customs as saying.

 

EU and Japan followed with respective values of US$54.86 million and US$39.38 million, up 17.6% and 12.64% against the same period last year.

 

Members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), meanwhile, spent US$17.51 million on importing tuna products from Vietnam during the period, up 5.62% on year.

 

Vietnam's revenues from tuna exports to other markets also witnessed increases in the year to mid-July, the VASEP said.

 

With the rising export of tuna, the VASEP expects that the country's tuna export revenues may hit US$760 million in 2012, doubling that of 2011.
