ADM looks to enter Eastern Europe market with German acquisition

Archer Daniels Midlands announced Thursday (August 15, 2008) that it has signed an agreement to acquire the assets of Campa Sued GmbH & Co KG, subject to clearance by relevant antitrust authorities.

Campa Sued GmbH & Co KG, based in Straubing, Southern Germany, operates a rapeseed crushing plant.

The acquisition strengthens ADM's softseed activities in Central and Eastern Europe, where the company previously had no processing presence, said Joe Taets, managing director, ADM Europe.

Campa's location on the Danube River, close to the markets of the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, provide excellent additional market opportunities for ADM, he added.

Decatur, Illinois-based ADM operates more than 240 processing plants in 60 countries and saw net sales of US$70 billion last fiscal year.
