Brazil's agri-exports may reach US$74 billion in 2008

Brazil's Agriculture Ministry reported that agricultural exports should reach $74 billion in 2008, up 26.7 percent from last year, a press officer confirmed late Thursday (August 14).

Brazil exported $41.173 billion in the first seven months of the year, local news agency Estado reported.

Low commodities prices won't affect these results in 2008 because they have already been included in this research, Estado quoted Celio Porto, Brazil's international agribusiness secretary, as saying.

Brazil is the world's largest exporter of sugar, coffee, orange juice, beef and chicken, as well as the second largest exporter of soy.
