Japanese retailer chain Daiei resumes limited US beef sales
Japanese supermarket chain Daiei Inc. said Tuesday (August 14) it will resume selling US beef this month through its 205 outlets on a limited basis.
Daiei said US beef will be sold a day per month as part of strict voluntary safety standards. The company will sell US beef on Saturday for this month.
Meanwhile, Uny Co., another Japanese supermarket chain, also said Tuesday (August 14) it started selling US beef on its 145 outlets last August 4.
Daiei and Uny follow Ito-Yokado Co. and Seiyu Ltd., a subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., in resuming selling US beef.
However, Aeon Co., the country's largest supermarket chain, still has no plans to put US beef on its shelves.
