Germany's first half commercial meat production rises 4.1 percent on-year

German commercial meat production rose 4.1 percent on-year to nearly 3.4 million tonnes in the first half of 2006, the Federal Statistical Office said Monday (Aug 14).

Poultry slaughtering accounted for 15 percent while slaughtering of cattle, pigs, sheep, goats and horses accounted for the rest.

The statistical office noted that the increase was largely due to the significant increase in cattle and pig slaughtering. Cattle slaughter increased 7.8 percent, while pig slaughter rose 4.2 percent.
