Brunei company working with Indonesian abattoir to export halal meat
A Brunei company, Pelita Group & Associated Company, has signed a three-year contract with an Indonesian abattoir to supply it with halal meat for re-exporting to other countries.
Potential markets for such halal products include the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC), and countries in Asia and Europe.
Brunei's Abattoir Inspection Committee is scheduled to inspect facilities of PT Surya Jaya Abattoir in Surabaya, Indonesia to ensure the abattoirs comply with halal procedures.
The inspections would end Aug 18 and halal certification would be given if the abattoir meets requirements.
Executive chairman of Pelita, Hj Osman Hj Omar, said the company has applied for an industrial site to build a factory to re-export the meat. Meanwhile, the meat would have to be directly exported from Surabaya.
He added the initiative to re-export meat to other countries from Brunei is in line with efforts to make Brunei a halal meat hub.
