Russia may export meat to Europe in five years

Instead of importing meats from Europe, Russia may be exporting meat there in the next five years, Russian Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev said on Friday (Aug 11).

Prospective countries for exports include Germany, Austria and Italy, the minister said. At present, however, the Agriculture Ministry is focusing on balancing farm produce in the country, he said.

Gordeyev encouraged farmers in the Krasnodar region in Southern Russia to develop livestock breeding. The region, known more for its grain production, can also branch into meat and dairy production and supply neighbouring regions with these products, he said.
