Distributor seeks help in UK trials of German clay-based feed additive

EWI Associates, a UK-based distributor, is seeking the help of companies for local trials of Sanbio Sanan, a natural 70% clay-based feed additive created by SANBOS GmbH, a German agricultural products company.

The feed additive will be sold at a low cost to feed companies that can accommodate field trials under UK conditions, said Ron Edmonds of EWI Associates.

Sanbio Sana is developed to bind mycotoxins and endotoxins, stimulate digestion and protect against diseases. It is also able to boost livestock performances through bio-dynamic effects; these are induced through a bio-resonance process that activates the bentonite within clay minerals in the product.

In addition, Sanbio Sana diminishes endogenous nitrogen compounds in animal organs, thus optimising acid-based balance and stimulating metabolism. These lead to better digestion, hence, better feed conversion.

Other benefits include improved fluidity of the resulting slurry that ensures fewer drainage problems, and a reduction of harmful gases and bad odours in pig buildings.

A 110-day farm-scale trial for Sanbio Sana had been conducted in Germany. Involving two batches of 200-pigs each, results revealed a 18.7% spike in feed intakes for the Sanbio Sana-treated group (20kg/tonne from day one to seven; 1.0kg/tonne from day 8 to 15; and 0.5kg/tonne from day 15 onwards), along with a 10.4% increase in daily weight gains and 7.8% rise in final pig weights.

Another trial was conducted in the UK, on two batches of 12 pigs each, with average weights of 162kg and 163kg respectively. During the test period, from mid-May to early-July this year, the group receiving Sanbio Sana weighed 435.5kg on July 8 compared to 398.5kg for the other group.
