Vietnam feed production grew 4.5% in first half of 2014

Feed production in Vietnam grew to 7 million tonnes in the first six months of 2014, an increase of 4.5% on-year.

The Red River Delta accounts for 44% of production and feed consumption; followed by the southeast locality at 35% and the Mekong Delta at 16%.

In the first half of the year, although prices of most of the raw materials and feed products fell as compared to the same period last year, general feed prices for finisher market pigs increased 1.5% to 2.2%, to roughly US$ 495/tonne.

Feed imports have also increased, with 5.1 million tonnes of feed ingredients imported between January-June 2014 as compared to 3.0 million tonnes in the same period last year.
