Vietnam Competition Authority runs system trial of anti-dumping cases

The Vietnam Competition Authority (VCA) has run an early warning system trial of anti-dumping cases at the following sites: http://www.canhbaosom.vn (Vietnamese) or http://www.earlywarning.vn (English).

VCA Head Bach Van Mung said that the system will update information about legal regulations of Vietnam's main export markets in order to alert local businesses about the possibility of anti-dumping cases.

"In the first phase, the system will run trial for five goods categories, which includes seafood, in Vietnam's top export markets of the US and the EU," Mung said Thursday (August 12). The system will provide alert information about 10 kinds of goods in five export markets in the second phase, and about 20 goods categories in 10 markets in the third phase.

Amid the rising number of anti-dumping cases against Vietnamese products in recent years, the VCA plans to officially launch the early warning system in November.

From early 1994 to June 30, 2010, Vietnam faced 34 anti-dumping lawsuits, of which 21 were against the country's 15 main exports such as seafood, forcing many local firms to reduce their output.

In 2009, Vietnam was ranked seventh out of 100 countries and territories in the world that had to cope with the highest number of anti-dumping lawsuits.
