India Aug 1 wheat stocks estimated at 12.01 million tonnes
 

India's stocks of wheat are estimated at 12.01 million tonnes as of Aug 1, up from 7.33 million tonnes a year earlier, the latest government data showed Monday (Aug 13).

Stocks of wheat in warehouses constitute one of the benchmarks on which further imports of the grain are decided by the government.

India's federal government has plans to import up to 5 million tonnes of wheat this year, but has so far purchased only 511,000 tonnes from the international market due to adequate local stocks in warehouses.
