BioAgra announces successful study of non-antibiotic feed additive

BioAgra has announced a successful study of non-antibiotic treatment for chicken diseases such as necrotic enteritis.

The product, to be used in poultry feed, is a purified yeast beta-1,3/1,6-D glucan with an 80 percent or greater biological activity. BioAgra is a joint venture between Vyta Corp and Justin Holdings, both with equal share in the company.

The study demonstrated that Agrastim can replace antibiotics in eradicating Clostridium perfringens, the agent that causes necrotic enteritis.

The product is the company's response to market demand for non-antibiotic ways of treating diseases in chickens such as necrotic enteritis.

The study, conducted at the University of Georgia in Athens, was done in collaboration with the Southern Poultry Research Institute under the direction of Dr Charles Hofacre and Greg Mathis, Ph.D., president of Southern Poultry Research Institute.
