Global markets

FOB prices of Peruvian CNF fishmeal increased another US$20 to US$1,900/tonnes over the week.

Fishmeal producers lifted price quotes as Peru’s fishing season ended meeting only 47% of the target quota.

Market analysis

Despite climbing import costs, the prices of fishmeal remained stable in China.

Sales of fishmeal was below expectation is as aqua farming in the southern coastal provinces continued to be disrupted by adverse weather conditions. Hence, aqua feed producers were reluctant to accumulate inventories, especially as the farming season would be over in a couple of months.

Price quotes for prime-grade products remained in the range of RMB13,500-13,800/tonne.

Market forecast

Fishmeal traders will be tempted to lift prices to cover the rising import costs. However, with buying interest weak, price hikes of fishmeal will be limited.
