Mexican demand boosts sales of tra fish
High demand of tra fish in Mexico is boosting the sales of Vietnamese exporters, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
In the first half of 2010, Vietnamese firms exported more than 17,000 tonnes of tra fish worth US$37.33 million to Mexico, recognising the country as its fifth largest importer after the US, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, as per VASEP.
Tra fish exports accounted for more than 95% of Vietnam's total seafood exports to Mexico during the period. Vietnam's seafood exports to Mexico soared 37.7% in volume and 27.5% in value between January and June.
Number of Vietnamese firms exporting tra fish to Mexico soared to 54 from 24 six years ago, including Hung Vuong Corp, Bianfishco and, Navico.
Vietnamese tra fish is now selling at big supermarkets in Mexico such as Walmart, Costco, Chedraui, Superama, and Soriana.
