Typhoon Morakot deals great damage to China's Zhejiang fishing industry
Typhoon Morakot has caused RMB623 million (US$91.1 million) of damages to China's Zhejiang fishing industry, according to initial reports from the province.

Specifically, Zhejiang's aquaculture industry suffered the most losses from the typhoon strike as the sector's projected loss has amounted to RMB500 million, or 80 percent of the total damages.

Besides flooding 367,800 mu of aquaculture breeding ponds, the typhoon also destroyed 7,593 breeding net cages, resulting in a loss of 26,900 tonnes in output. In addition, the typhoon sank 299 fishing boats and destroyed 441 more.Â

Meanwhile, the direct economic loss caused by the typhoon has reached RMB9.72 billion, according to China's Ministry of Civil Affairs.
